Image.hp.com (image.hp.com) is home to HP's Internet Imaging Group, the HP division responsible for OpenPix® imaging technologies.
In the summer of 1997, I did the first redesign of their site, but the early 1998 redesign was much more in tune with the OpenPix vision, the digital imaging world, and the Internet Imaging Group. (The site was once again redesigned in the June of 1998 and then again in October 1998.)
The new site allows and promotes both fresh content which is updated frequently and imaging industry-specific news and "section"-specific information (through the use of a right-hand navigation/content area).
The new site combined the previously separate DevZone and Imaging for Internet sites into one, tightly integrated, photo-rich site with a color-coded user navigation and subsection identity scheme designed to enrich the user experience.
Responsibilities:
- Site-wide design and implementation of the design. Given the multiple nested tables required to make this layout work, the design was tweaked many times before it worked properly in all 3 and 4 browsers.
- Creation of a design which would facilitate the HP content owner's desire to have frequently updated news and feature articles.
- Retrofitting of all existing content. In many cases, this involved recoding the content entirely to combat FrontPage problems created by others.
- Coding of all new content.
- Implementing .asp calls (provided/developed by another vendor handling the back-end infrastructure).
- Testing and maintenance.
(Initial redesign and implementation took place between January and February of 1998 concurrent to server changes and upgrades; entire design-to-completion time: approximately 1 month.)

attitude adjustment: the rules of the bazaar
HP's Mobile E-Services Bazaar has proven that an unusual and collaborative - maybe even bizarre - approach to defining, developing, and deploying e-services can and does work. Indeed, with its small global team, it is hard to believe the number of successes rolling out of the bazaar - and rolling they are. With a speed uncommon and unexpected in many large corporations, the Bazaar crafts and polishes e-services bundles culled from companies around the world - big and small.
