When the Code Counts

Cybercodes.com / Gallery / Imagep.hp.com June 1997

The Imaging for Internet website (site replaced by 1998 redesign) is the external Hewlett-Packard site highlighting all aspects of the Imaging for Interent Flashpix technology. As a result, this site is used by both consumers and developers, so a clear navigational strategy was in order as was the careful separation of materials for easy access.

Horizontal Navigation System The horizontal navigational element implemented pushed the edges of the traditional HP horizontal banner while continuing to work within the longstanding HP guidelines. This navigational banner allowed easy identification of the subsections of the site so that visitors were never lost.

In ensuing phases of the project, additional graphical material was added to enhance sections of the site, and, when the DevZone was added in Phase II, the main site banners

and navigational elements were modified to incoroporate the new subsite.

The main page utilizes a montage of individual cells which highlight sections of the Imaging for Internet site. This technique allows easy updating as a new image can be created and slotted into any slot.

Early versions of this front page show quite a different color scheme and "tone" than the final version. (See images above.) The results, however, fit the Imaging for Internet group's emphasis on visuality and allowed room for site expansion.

Phase I of this project was completed in a one week timeline.

attitude adjustment: the rules of the bazaar
HP's Mobile E-Services Bazaar has proven that an unusual and collaborative - maybe even bizarre - approach to defining, developing, and deploying e-services can and does work. Indeed, with its small global team, it is hard to believe the number of successes rolling out of the bazaar - and rolling they are. With a speed uncommon and unexpected in many large corporations, the Bazaar crafts and polishes e-services bundles culled from companies around the world - big and small.
