When the Code Counts

Cybercodes.com / Gallery / The Enhancer

The Enhancer (Original location: image.hp.com/enhancer) was a sub-site of the Imaging for Internet HP site and was designed to provide a web Enhancer / Sample Page version of the Enhancer Comic Book, originally distributed at Summer Internet World 1997.

The challenge with this site was making the images web-friendly and yet retaining the clarity of the text contained in the dialogue baloons. While putting one cell on each web page was not the original desire of the HP team, this approach did allow me to use fast-loading images at a physical size which allowed good screen clarity.

Banner Tests for Enhancer The design and navigation system I designed for use with the comic book section is simple, and yet guides readers through the comic in a straightforward manner. Acts and clearly noted; a table of contents is always a click away; and each page contains a numerical notation which shows which cell the viewer is currently seeing. This allows the viewer to gauge where she or he is in the process.

I was responsible for the design of a site look-and-feel which would adhere to HP standards, maintain the newly designed super-site's look, and yet remain clearly a "separate" section. The site also needed to convey look-and-feel qualities in keeping with a comic book.

My work on the Enhancer site included layout, graphic design and implementation, and all Enhancer Main Page necessary HTML coding of content. There were 60+ comic book cells which I scanned, manipulated, and made web-ready.

The entire site was completed in a one week timeline during August 1997. The site ran live between launch and mid-1998.

FEATURED ARTICLE
attitude adjustment: the rules of the bazaar
HP's Mobile E-Services Bazaar has proven that an unusual and collaborative - maybe even bizarre - approach to defining, developing, and deploying e-services can and does work. Indeed, with its small global team, it is hard to believe the number of successes rolling out of the bazaar - and rolling they are. With a speed uncommon and unexpected in many large corporations, the Bazaar crafts and polishes e-services bundles culled from companies around the world - big and small.
